We’ve been around for a while.
Ricks Performance was started by me in 1984 in Pleasanton. At that time it was called Ricks Rotary Performance. Right out of college I became involved with the Bay Area RX-7 Club. The club had a lot of events going on such as autocrosses, driving schools and wine country tours. I read up on how to modify my 1979 RX-7 so that it would perform well on the track. Soon, other members came to me and said they noticed that my car was quick and handled well. They asked me who set up the car and I told them that I had. They wanted to know if I would work on their cars as well. So I said that I would.
In time, I realized that I could make a living doing what I loved to do
– service and repair cars, as well as make them perform better. I continued with the racing – joined the Sport Car Club of America and started running in the Pro Rally series in California.
Many of the Mazda customers also drove other Japanese cars
– Subaru, Toyota, Mitsubishi etc. I got training on working on the newer cars and soon AAA asked me to join their Approved Auto Repair network.
Our shop has continued to expand
– we outgrew our location on California Ave. in Pleasanton andmoved to our present location on Bernal Ave in 2000.
My philosophy regarding auto repair and service
has always been to treat every car as if it were my own. How would I handle the repair – would I spend extra money if I really did not need to? Would I put inferior quality parts on my car save a few dollars – no. My technicians are trained to think like I do. We typically use factory original equipment parts knowing that the repair will be done right the first time. We also provide a 2 year, 24,000 miles warranty on all parts and labor.
